Beating the January blues

Thursday, 30 January 2014

January can be a sad month. The Christmas flab is hanging around and forcing us to detox; we’re poor from too much fun in December so can’t go out and if that’s not bad enough its cold, wet and dark constantly. All there is to look forward to is an advent calendar style (without the chocolate) countdown to payday.

My January gym routine has been made a little brighter with my amazing new gym bag by Hey Holla that I got for Christmas. You can’t carry this around all day then not go to the gym or people will judge you so it’s a great motivator!

It’s available at for £16 and is made by the amazing duo, Alex and Laura. Check out their website for new designs and buy one – I want more but not sure how many gym bags I need. The “Big Fish Little Fish” bag is calling me though…

Another happy event for me this month is the return of Girls (Series 3) to our TV screens. I LOVE Girls, literally LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I can’t even imagine how it could get any better. It’s a BIG occasion at D’s house when we have an episode recorded. There’s an agreed contract that we’ll never watch it without each other then we tend to watch it at least a two times before we feel we’ve appreciated it enough.  If you haven’t seen it then I strongly suggest you buy series one and two on box set NOW. Lena Dunham, the creator, is amazing. She’s already won two Golden Globe awards and she’s only 27. Makes you feel inadequate that she's acheieved so much already!
Girls is hilarious, it follows a group of twenty-somethings living in New York. You’ll watch it and relate to something in every episode, then be ashamed that you ever related to such a strange, embarrassing or awkward situation. You’ll struggle to decide which character is your favourite. This week Adam is mine. His complete infatuation with Hannah is cute but usually borders on insanity. What better way to spend your dull January evenings, get it now! Just don’t watch it with your parents, AWK-WARD!
My major craving of the month is avocados. Believe it or not, and sadly it’s true, I hadn’t eaten an avocado EVER until a few months ago. Now I appear to be eating my 28 years allowance in the space of a few weeks, I seriously can't get enough. I feel like they deserve a whole post to themselves but I don't want to scare you off this early into my blogging days. For now we'll just think about avocado on toast, avocado in salads, even avocado brownies. I thought the brownies was a particularly weird combo but one cold, wet Saturday evening me and Jane thought "why not, let's give it a go" and they were amazing! We've decided that gluten free means healthy so make a batch and fill your boots! mmmmmmm........
That's all from me, stop by again soon.

Welcome to my blog,

I constantly read London blogs by girls who seem to have it all. They live somewhere townhouse-esque with a Notting Hill postcode, have an unlimited wardrobe of amazing clothes, only travel by taxi and have perfectly blow dried hair. I usually find it entertaining to read about their glamorous lives but sometimes it can just be plain depressing (especially in sad, wet, poor January!). So I’ve decided to start my own blog, as a real twenty something living in London.

This blog is going to be a real life account of London living.

So let’s set the scene:

Here I am.

  • I’m Little London Girl, 28 years old, Claphamite (South London for those who don’t know).
  • I earn a pretty decent wage, but sadly due to the expense of London life this means I live in a cramped house share with 3 other girls (and one bathroom, I might add).
  • My fridge rarely has more than some mouldy cheese and a munch bunch yoghurt.
  • I spend all my money on bills leaving only a small budget for what I do best: eating out and drinking cocktails. I constantly crave the uni days of a nice loan appearing in your account every few months which you could blow in Topshop on some lovely new clothes (oh and books, I bought some books too honest).
  • I have a boyfriend, let’s call him DG. I found him on It’s all very modern this dating malarkey in London.
  • I love body combat, body attack, body pump – any gym class with the word “body” involved. Fitness First is my friend and my enemy, for January we have been good friends.
  • I’m jealous of my non-London living friends who are buying 4 bed houses and paying mortgages less than my rent. Jealous, and bitter.
Ok that’s enough about me, nosy!

Living in London is awesome, it must be otherwise why would so many of us be putting ourselves through such stressful commutes and fights over shared fridges.

This blog is about real London life with all it's fun and troubles. I hope you enjoy!
