One Sixty

Monday, 19 May 2014

Tonight was dinner club, my monthly catch up with the girls and this time it was Catherine’s turn to choose the location. She picked the newly opened One Sixty in West Hampstead - an English version of an American smokehouse specialising in slow-smoked meat dishes.

Why is it called One Sixty I hear you ask?
Well apparently the meat is smoked at the optimum temperature of 160 degrees, which gives it a distinct flavour.

One Sixty is the new project from David Moore, the restauranteur behind the Michelin starred Pied à Terre and L’Autre Pied restaurants.

We went along with high hopes for a delicious meal.

I was the first one to arrive as the girls got distracted in a pub garden, but it gave me the perfect opportunity to get snapping.

The staff were very attentive and looked after me whilst I was Larry the loner.
The décor is typical of everywhere in London at the moment, rustic feel...lots of wood, leather, steel etc. They even serve the food in my favourite blue and white enamel dishes, which seem to be the staple option in every London meat joint this year. The poor camping community are probably having to resort to using fine china instead.

The girls arrived and we got to examining the menu in silence.

Considering One Sixty is all about the perfect smoking process we made some bad menu choices as we were all craving a burger. I tried to convince the girls that it was our duty to test different options but nobody was budging.
Helen did us proud and chose the pulled pork so at least you can see 2 dishes!

Nobody was disappointed with their food choice. The burgers were cooked to perfection, pink in the middle and were unbelievably juicy. Luckily there's a big kitchen roll on the table and you'll need it as this is one drippy mess of a burger!

How good do those chips look!

A tower of pulled pork in a bun.

We really enjoyed our mains, so much so that all conversation stopped so we could concentrate on our meat in peace. We ended up with sauce all over our faces and hands but it was definitely worth it.

We literally thought we were fit to burst but when the dessert menu came our sweet tooth was too much to resist and we had a little look....

Then ordered the bourbon & banoffee pie, apple pie and the special of the day, profiteroles with ice cream and hot melted chocolate.
Warning: these desserts will cause severe mouth watering.

I'd say its more Tarte Tatin than apple pie but nobody was complaining about that!

We grabbed a spoon and started a race to the finish line.

Gobble Gobble.
We voted on the desserts but they weren't conclusive in any way...
Apple pie: 2 votes
Banoffee pie: 2 votes
Profiteroles: 1 vote

I'd recommend that you order all three!

We had a great time at One Sixty, the food was tasty, staff were very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was buzzy with everyone chatting and eating happily.

Considering the amount of food we had plus some alcoholic drinks, the price was very reasonable. Next time, I'll make sure that I try the ribs as I feel like I've let you down!

The front of the restaurant has a large bar if you are nosy like me and just fancy popping in for a quick drink and a snoop. They have a huge range of craft beers if you are into that sort of thing.

"They" say that West End Lane is set to become the new Marylebone high street, and with the arrival of high end bars and restaurants, like One Sixty, you’ll have difficultly in challenging this.

One Sixty -
Cost: £25 p/head for main, side, dessert and a boozy drink
Food: Smoked meat like ribs, ox cheeks, burgers
Address:291 West End Lane, NW6 1RD

Remember if you've enjoyed reading this post then you can nominate (before 2nd June) Little London Girl to be short listed for the Next Newcomer Blog Award here. I'd really appreciate it.
