Hare and Tortoise

Monday, 23 June 2014

I recently took a little trip over to Putney to visit Claire. She was keen to introduce me to one of her new regular haunts, and I was keen to stuff my face with sushi.
So off to Hare and Tortoise we went.

Hare and Tortoise

From the outside you certainly won't be wowed. The inside isn't much better, although clean and spacious it doesn’t offer much atmosphere. Our trip had the potential of being ruined by a screaming baby at the table next to us. There was nothing for it but to drown out the noise by drinking sake, lots of sake.....starting with some sake and plum wine spritzers, followed by a bottle of sake.

The staff didn’t seem particularly keen to serve us so after 15 mins we had to hunt them down to order some food. Claire took charge and ordered a feast of sushi and sashimi, I just sat back and watched on in awe.
This girl is a pro at ordering!

You forget about the décor and staff as soon as the food arrives. It is incredible, unbelievably fresh and there is a lot of it!

We munched our way through, catching up on life and chatting about blogging until we were in a sushi coma. Claire is soon to launch her fabulous new blog so that’ll be one to look out for in the future.
I’ll give you details asap!

It was a delicious meal which would easily rival Sticks and Sushi on price and quality of food but definitely not atmosphere. I just need to move to Putney so they can be my neighbours too.

Writing this is making me want to go back and eat more.
I’ll be booking in another visit asap.

  1. Is it part of a chain? I used to go to a Hare and Tortoise near Russell Square and felt exactly like this about it - rubbish service, lacking in atmosphere but brilliant food!
