Sausage roll party

Monday, 11 August 2014

No party is worthwhile unless there are sausage rolls. Fact!

For some reason nobody ever holds a party in honour of these puff pastry parcels filled with happiness.
With my Ginger Pig cookbook (the best moving in gift ever!) under my arm and a glass of prosecco in hand I set about changing this……..

Let me introduce you to the sausage roll party! (Prosecco optional!)

Sausage Roll Party

Having just moved in with DG, it was time for Sammy and Robert to come over and have a snoop. This seemed the perfect time to launch my new craze.

The day before the party I skipped off to the legendary Ginger Pig butchers to buy my meat. You need minced pork and minced pork fat so you’ll need to find yourself a butchers instead of a supermarket.

The sausage meat has to rest overnight so make sure you get the prep out of the way the day before the party.

Here’s how to whip up your own batch of happiness:
550g minced pork
175g minced pork fat
1 tsp chopped sage
1tsp dried mixed herbs
100g breadcrumbs
150g stilton
Sea salt
Ground black pepper
1 egg, beaten
Puff pastry

Mix the pork and fat in a bowl. Add the breadcrumbs, herbs, crumbled cheese, seasoning and 125ml of water.

This is the messy part, shove your hands in the bowl and give it a big old squishy mix.
You'll either love or hate it!

Wrap some cling film over the bowl and stick it in the fridge over night. Easy peasy!

When you are ready to start cooking, whack your oven up to 180 degrees, get your sausage meat out of the fridge, beat an egg and roll out your pastry.

Make a long roll of sausage meat then brush the pastry with egg so that it sticks.

Now roll him up!

The final step is putting your porky treats in the oven. Make sure they are cooked right through with no pink bits, they'll need about an hour.

The guests arrived and the prosecco was flowing. Sammy and Robert never arrive empty handed and came with a bag overflowing with treats. Lucky me!

Presents

After a quick tour of the new home, it was time to get this party started.

We all love to talk so it was basically  fast paced chit chat where any outsiders would have struggled to understand what was going on! The chatter was only interrupted by a quick “ohhh” or “ahhh” when Roxy did something cute.

The sausage roll theme went down a treat but Roxy didn't quite understand it. She spent the whole evening rolling around on the floor. It was the first time she’d rolled over and we couldn’t stop her once she’d started. We clapped and whooped in excitement every time!

The first sausage roll party was a great success, especially with prosecco thrown in for fun! So much was eaten and drank that Sammy and Robert had to be rolled out the door.

Make sure to spread the craze!
