Kayla's BBG - Week 9

Tuesday, 30 September 2014

Warning: this is not a motivational exercise post!

So I admit I got bored of updating you on the Kayla Bikini Body Guide journey. This is mostly beause all I have to say each week is; "oh god, it's so hard", "nope, it doesn't get any easier", "still no abs!".

We've just finished week 9 and Kayla has really upped the ante with the final 4 weeks of the plan. My week looked liked this;
  • Monday:
    LISS training: 40mins cycle,
Resistance: Circuits for 30 mins (Abs)

  • Tuesday:
    LISS training: 40mins cycle

  • Wednesday:
    LISS training: 40mins cycle,
Resistance: Circuits for 30 mins (Arms),
HIIT training (15 mins interval on treadmill)

  • Thursday:
Resistance: Body Combat (instead of 3rd circuit)

  • Friday:
    LISS training: 40mins cycle,
HIIT training (15 mins interval on treadmill)

  • Saturday:
Resistance: Circuit training for 30 mins (Abs)

  • Sunday:Day of rest!
Now I'm usually pretty active anyway but I think you will all agree this is insane!

Not only are we constantly at the gym but the workouts are so much harder and need a lot of equipment. On Wednesday I was flying solo at the gym and had to hog all this equipment to myself!

We're hating it, I'm constantly knackered and hungry but we're so close to the end that we're not giving up now! 3 WEEKS TO GO!!

Mum's birthday getaway

Sunday, 28 September 2014

Last month my lovely mum celebrated her 50th birthday. We had a huge party to celebrate and danced the night away with family and friends.

Cotswolds

As it was an extra special birthday we booked a weekend escape to the Cotswolds with 3 of her closest friends. And after a year of planning we finally packed our bags and loaded into Gail's car.

The Cotswolds is made up of picturesque villages and towns in the English countryside. It is dream place for a keen shutterbug like myself to get snapping. En route to our new home, and after an hour detour where we got lost (!!), we stopped at the beautiful Bournton on the Water for a spot of lunch.

Full and happy we continued our journey. We had booked an amazing house, on a lake, in a gated holiday village near Cirencester.

Mum's room had a shower big enough for all us!

The lake had all sorts of activities for us to get involved in like cycling, canoeing, water boarding, but for us it was all about the spa.

After unpacking and filling the wine fridge to capacity, we got our bikinis on and set off for a swim. The beautiful outdoor pool was the perfect temperature, with a slight layer of mist on the water. We had the whole pool to ourselves so we swam under the stars, chatting away and  having a great time. We knew we were in for a good weekend.

Then it was home to scoff far too much cheese, crackers and bubbles with a Jenga championship on the side. It all got competitive very quickly!

The group, made up of mums (plus me), were all extremely happy with their Saturday morning lie-ins and endless tea without having to watch kids TV or play games. I was just happy to escape the city for a weekend. After breakfast and feeling content we skipped along to the spa for our treatments.

The spa is beautiful and calm, until 10am, then they let all the children in to use the pool.

Luckily we found the library, which was adults only, so spent the morning reading and swinging around in the most amazing chair in between our treatments.

I booked the hot hot massage which was amazing. Having never been to a spa before I didn't think I'd enjoy it but it was such a relaxing day. I am now constantly searching for spa deals to get my next one booked in.

Back at the house we had some well deserved champagne to celebrate mum's birthday whilst getting ready for an evening out on the town, Cirencester town!

I've never really had any desire to go to Cirencester but it excelled all our expectations and we had a great time. There are quite a few boutique home shops so we were in our element, all of us spending too much money. Paulette and I ended up lugging around pots of paint and wax for the rest of the night after our impulse purchases!

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at French restaurant, Le Beaujolais with far too much cheese, red wine and steak. I was in heaven!

A taxi was booked and Jenga championship was calling us until I spotted the flashing disco lights from a pub across the road. After some fast persuasion, I cancelled the taxi and the dancing began!

We had a great night in Cirencester and I'd even be tempted to go back again, especially for a spot of shopping.

Sadly the next morning was home time. Before we packed up, we decided to have a stroll around the lake and soak up the sunshine.

Then on spotting this sign, I jumped in, grabbed my paddle and floated my way back to London town.

A great weekend had by all. I highly recommend a trip to the Cotswold for shopping, eating and if you are really lucky some disco dancing!

Happy birthday mumsie! xxx

Evans and Peel Detective Agency

"Please state your case”.

Evans and Peel Detective Agency

Are you in need of some professional help to solve a tricky problem? Then I know just the place for you.

This place is pretty hush hush so I’ve not included many photos as I don’t want to ruin the experience.

Evans and Peel Detective Agency
Hidden away behind an unassuming door in Earls Court is a very secret bar; the first challenge is even finding it then getting in is a whole other problem. Press the buzzer and await a response. Once inside you’ll need to state your case.

We had something along the lines of a missing pet elephant, called Mimi.

When your detective has enough information to get started on the case, they’ll lead you back in time to the prohibition era to drink cocktails whilst they start investigating.

Evans and Peel Detective Agency

The speak easy bar has a great vibe, albeit pretty dark and hot, with a great menu of cocktails and American style bar food. We ordered some bits to nibble on whilst Mimi's captive was being hunted down.

Chilli and cheese loaded fries.

Evans and Peel Detective Agency
Buffalo wings - not made from Buffalos surprisingly!

This venue is a perfect option for a first date as it’ll impress them and also give you the chance to do your own investigation into how fun they are! Go on, put them on the spot!

Evans and Peel Detective Agency

I went along on Lizbit's suggestion. She was funny and great at improvising so hopefully she'll take me on a second date.

We never did find out what happened to Mimi so perhaps the detectives aren’t quite as good as the cocktails..

My Fitness Pal

Sunday, 21 September 2014

No, I’m not talking about Catherine, my loyal gym buddy; I’m talking about the best app ever invented. It’s basically a food diary with added benefits;

My Fitness Pal

Firstly it counts calories; you don’t even have to read the packaging, you can type in what you have eaten or scan a barcode and voila it’s done! There is a huge database behind the app which has pretty much every meal you’ll ever want recorded in there. It’s even got restaurant meals in it so you can keep track of everything you eat. No excuses! This really encourages you to make healthier choices as I had no idea some food was so naughty.

My Fitness Pal

Diet breakdown; at any point in the day you can look at the breakdown between carbs, fat and protein in your diet. This helps you to make choices based on a healthy balanced diet rather than think, like I used to…."well I’ll eat popcorn for dinner as 400 calories is the same as a dinner."

My Fitness Pal

Exercise earns you extra calories; what you set your target calories at is your choice depending on your goal but every time you add exercise into the app it gives you more calories for the day. Hooray! This can really motivate you to do exercise so you earn more calories, especially if you’ve got a dinner date planned.

My Fitness Pal

Records weight loss; there is a feature to record your weigh-ins so that you can see on a graph how far you’ve come. I don’t really use this feature as I’m not aiming to lose weight but it’s a great motivator if you are.

Community; my fitness pal app allows you to add your real life fitness pals so you can watch each others progress (it only reports on the good bits!) and be supportive!

My Fitness Pal

It’s all about losing or maintaining weight the healthy way, no fad diets or starving yourself. You just have to log what you eat, then if you are like me you’ll avoid eating those hobnobs as you don’t want your fitness pal to know – plus are they really worth the calories…..ok sometimes they are, yes!

This has really helped me whilst doing Kayla’s bikini body guide (now on week 7!) as I can see how much I’m eating and make sure it’s a balanced diet, which I’m clueless about. I’ve been feeling hungry constantly from all the workouts so now I can see how many calories I’ve gained from the workouts to make sure I’m fuelling my body properly.

Oh and did I mention…it’s completely free.
