The Works

Tuesday, 14 April 2015

As a big food lover and occasional blogger, I’m not usually caught off guard when it comes to snapping delicious treats or cool venues as I always have my trusty camera in tow. However on a recent lunch date back in the Shire with the Queen of the Aylesbury theatre world, Miss Trimming – take a bow, I was left completely unprepared and pleasantly surprised.

After stuffing ourselves with lunch and chatter, Miss Trimming convinced me that the new ice cream parlour in Aylesbury was THE place to be and that we’d HAVE to go for dessert.

“It’s definitely bloggable” she promised.

“Somewhere in Aylesbury.....bloggable!?” I scoffed.

Well say hello to The Works because the Theatre Queen was right, this place certainly wouldn’t look out of place in Soho.

The Works have perfected the popular industrial vibe with wooden furniture, exposed brick walls and my favourite of all - blue and white enamel bowls. The young staff team are friendly, and certainly aren’t bad on the eye, if you know what I mean (wink wink!).

With Prosecco on tap, I felt right at home.

The Works focuses on a menu of crepes and waffles which can be served savoury or sweet, there’s also options of homemade ice creams, eye-popping sundaes and mouth-watering hot desserts. This place is a gold mine for sweet toothed Shire folk, looking for spot to rest their feet after shopping, a lunch time snack, or pre theatre sugar rush.

We ordered Prosecco immediately then spent a good 20 minutes looking at the menu then admiring photos on Instagram to make sure we made the right choice.

Miss Trimming went off piste and chose an Instagram original.

Chocolate crepe with raspberries, cream and vanilla ice cream.

I chose a Banoffee crepe: Sliced banana, toffee sauce (swapped for chocolate) and biscuit crumb with a side of vanilla ice cream.

There are definitely no disappointed customers at The Works (other than feeling like you might explode!!)
The enthusiastic and friendly staff checked in with us regularly and shared a real passion for the food they were serving. The team are a real asset to management and you can tell that everyone feels that this place has something a little special about it.

Sadly I was defeated!!

If you live close by and haven’t been yet then get yourselves down there. It’s a great one for the whole family, I’ll definitely be bringing the little brother down for a sundae on my next visit back to the Shire.
